I am gonna discuss a really sensitive topic today and it's at your own risk to read it. Please do not pass unnecessary comments and make sure you ponder over what i had said before passing judgment nor come to a conclusion. I have thought about this issue long enough to write this entry. It is starting to irritate my poor nerves and here I am today giving my opinion on the equality of the sexes.
Let's not talk about women being on the top of the career ladder, and many other women figures that has impacted our lives with their great doings and charitable acts. Yes, certainly there are women that i look up to, my mum, aunt, grandmother etc. And on a more random note, you can hear me echoing Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana, Mother Theresa etc.
Women are more passionate. Women are born to be emotional. Women are born to have mood swings. Women are born to be able to show their feelings.
Men are supposed to be less emotional. Men are supposed to be in full control of their mood. Men aren't suppose to show their feelings.
How possible can there be equality between men and women? While women may argue that they deserve equality in these days, they are fighting a losing battle. On that issue, I will argue that why is it that women sees themselves as the appropriate figure to have mood swings? being emotional? Why cant men feel this way too? Have you asked yourself? Here you are seeking equality, there you are expecting something out of a male figure and expecting them to behave in a way you would not. On the right note, didn't we started this whole issue about being equal? Being the same? Being able to react and behave in the same manner? why are men not entitled to be emotional? mood changes? Because they are deem as a masculine figures? Masculine meaning having qualities traditionally ascribed to men, as strength and boldness. So how then did humans actually came out with the understanding that being masculine means not suited to show their inner emotions. That's a whole load of bull-shit.
I am sick and tire of hearing people saying:" Why do you have mood swings like women? How can a man cry? How can you show your feelings so easily?" (certainly some are from my own experience but also a mix of those you watch on television) Knock knock! Sounds familiar? Have you ever yell out that line? or even had a thought about this about your boyfriend, your friend? The society we are brought up in, the ways children are encourage to behave in such a manner. And here in our ever changing modern society, women are thought to be independent, challenging male authorities, in fact strive to be on the same par. Yes, on this area, i agree that women should move out of men's shadows and try to gain a more prominent status in society.
It is torturous to see women in many undeveloped countries suffering from the tyranny of men's control and that certainly we should put an end to it. Give women their due rights. However in developed countries, we face problems that we are ashame of. Ironically seeking for equality but often not doing a reality check on themselves. Be bold, be courageous to show emotions and in fighting for equality, we should fight off stereotypes that we are brought up to believe. We have to create an identity that is equal and not argue for more from the other sex. If we cant even fight off such beliefs and still uphold such ethics that has transcend through different generations, than on my last note, I will say that men and women can never be equal. Face the harsh reality. To begin with, our body structures, our duties towards society, the expectations from the society is indeed incomparable. So why the persistent fight against men when women themselves have certain institutions about men.
Start equality by doing inner self reflection. Believing that both sexes are entitled to their own liking of behaviors and not attaching beliefs to others when you, yourself behave in a certain manner that you expect the opposite sex not to.
P.s: This entry can be bias and you may choose to reflect upon it after reading it or start hating me for refusing to acknowledge that men and women are equal. I may not be the appropriate person to argue on such a sensitive issue because i am believed to be double standard in the first place and certainly threading along the line of being a MCP.
A really interesting quote to end off this entry.
